When reports such as the latest Mobile Applications & App Stores whitepaper from Juniper Research suggest mobile App Stores will be the primary source of income for their operators by 2011 and that by 2014, the industry will be worth a staggering $25 billion, it's no wonder every manufacturer is trying to get in on the act. The Apple App Store is arguably the best known and most successful, thus the one newcomers wish to emulate, making the new Complete Report into smartphone user behavior essential reading not just for us as fans and users, but for every manufacturer too.
Here's a breakdown of the key findings relating to the iPhone and its App Store:
• 86% of surveyed iPhone owners have paid between $0.99 and $9.99 for an App, and 83% of these owners have downloaded more than six Apps. This showed iPhone users download more Apps than any other smartphone model owner.

• iPhone owners most commonly downloaded Apps fell into four categories, 79% for games, 78% for entertainment, 57% for weather and 55% for music.

• Just 2% of the surveyed individuals with an iPhone have never downloaded any Apps.

• The top three applications used most frequently by all smartphone users are for weather reports, Facebook and finally, games.
Interestingly, iPhone users singled out Shazam and Lose It as being most often used, both of which could be seen in action during the recent App Store TV advert campaign. Who says advertising doesn't work?
Apple has another reason to be cheerful this week, as in addition to this excellent App Store news are the results of the 2009 JD Power consumer satisfaction study. The iPhone has swept the board, earning top marks in all categories except for battery life, with a final score of 791 out of a possible 1000, making it the highest ranked smartphone among consumers. Last year, the iPhone also walked away with a similar score among business users too.
