Description
This offline dictionary lets you easily look up Japanese kanji in various ways. It comes with its own handwriting pad that has an "undo" function. The handwriting is stroke-order dependent, but results are sorted in such a way that most of the time you don't need to draw the whole character. You can also find and filter kanji by attribute (radical, number of strokes, meaning etc.), rotate the device to quickly thumb through related glyphs, and see (as well as control) stroke-order animations for 6,355 kanji. And that's not all. Tight integration with a word dictionary allows you to seamlessly jump between a kanji and its compounds. This integration makes use of multitouch gestures: a left swipe, for example, finds only compounds with the kanji in initial position. wishoTouch also takes advantage of the iPhone's high resolution to deliver a rich, Mac-like interface. Hunting for kanji has never been easier or more enjoyable!

Version 1.1
This app has the one thing no other kanji dictionary has: The ability tolet you look up a kanji based on sight alone. You don't have to know the radical or even all the strokes! As you write your kanji character on the screen, The app presents you with several possible kanji at the bottom of the sceen. You select the one you're trying to figure out, and the app gives you everything: onyomi, kunyomi, stroke count, definition, etc. We've all encountered kanji with unintelligible strokes; they're almost impossible to find in traditional dictionaries. But this app will help you greatly! Worth every penny!!!!!!! どうもありがとうございました。これから難しい漢字を 捜すのがやすいです。

Version 1.2
I finally decided to buy this app after waiting for a long time to see more reviews. This app is extremely difficult to use and has a clumsy interface. I can never get the recognition to work. At first I thought it was my poor stroke order, but I had a Japanese friend try and even she had difficulty finding the right character. Just get Kotoba! and look up Kanji on your computer at home. If an update addresses recognition issues, then I'll revise this write-up. Good recognition is the only thing that could set this apart and justify the price. Update: Upon further use I've decided this app is pretty good, there are a lot of good features. However, they are poorly explained and the price is still high. Work on the recognition and the app will be a steal.

Version 1.5
I have been in Japan for two months now, and I am glad that I have this application. I have been able to survive without a traditional electronic dictionary, thanks to wishotouch. Writing kanji is very easy and fast. I only recommend purchasing a stylus. The only time this software has let me down was lack of some accurate cross references and incorrect kanji strokes resulting in unknown kanji (very rarely for both). However, now that the new version has been released, they have fixed the bugs and the software's already convenient layout now is even more convenient. This is well-worth it; in many ways it is actually better than an electronic dictionary, especially in the sense of being user-friendly. As a side note, sazanami software has very responsive customer service.

Version 1.6.1
With Jishop being released, this app better cut it's price by about $12, and that still might not be enough, because it has twice as many kanji (and then some), and tons of compounds, and so much more depth to the meanings / definitions than this app. This is a so-so beginner kanji app, no more than that. There's only one Japanese app that costs as much as this one, and that's "Japanese" by Codefromtokyo, and it is in a class by itself. There is no possible way that anyone could justify the price of this app. Unfortunately I got ripped off because the interface looked pretty cool, and I had hopes for it, which it fails to meet, spectacularly. If you want an app that does what this one does, and plenty more, try something like Shinkanji, and save yourself $14, or the above mentioned Jishop. Which by the way has a free version with 1000 kanji, and a $5 version that is waaayyy better than this.
