The app itself is somewhat limited (there are other eReaders out there that are much more feature packed) but the whole Amazon/Kindle system is fantastic!

A lot of books are available and are cheaper via Amazon than most other places.

Not as good as Stanza as a reader, but it is nice to be able to buy and read real 'in the stores' books in a convenient, back-lit format.

Great App for Kindle owners!

Have had this for some time and have two Kindles (wife and myself). This allows me to share books with my son, who does not have a Kindle but does have an iPod touch. Not great for long times spent reading (device sceeen is too small), but great for occasional reading like while waiting for a bus or an appointment. As far as the dummy "reviewer" that complained that you "have to buy the books": WTF? Of course you have to buy books!! How the heck else are authors supposed to make money?
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Version 1.0
The Good: this app is a great thing for Kindle users and iPhone/Touch users who want to read books on their mobile device. It seems to work very well as a reader.

The Bad: if you are a Kindle user with two devices on one account, the app does not allow you to register any Kindle e-mail device other than the primary device. What that means is that, although you can download books purchased on the account, you cannot sync bookmarks and last page read between devices (except the primary). Big bummer.

The Ugly: in trying to work out the above issue, I deregistered the Kindle app on my iPhone. Now I can't re-register it to EITHER Kindle e-mail address, and deleting and reinstalling the app does not cure the problem. In other words, the app is now completely useless to me.

Hope they fix this soon because it will be a great thing when it's working properly. I'd give it five stars if it worked as intended. Note: the problems I've encountered shouldn't affect most Kindle users and should be of no concern to iPhone/Touch-only users.
Good, but not perfect

It has the features of the kindle for reading - can sync your last-read page - etc. It lets you access any book you've bought for your kindle.

It can't:
- Look up words in a line in the dictionary
- Add notations to a section
and by FAR - the largest omission from the app description, as well as reviews I've read:
- It does NOT give you the ability to get your newspaper/magazine subscriptions. ONLY books.

The last one was worth 1 star in and of itself, and the first two another. I'm guessing the last one was due to licensing issues but it still would be my most-desired feature to get my daily paper on my iPhone.
It's ok, but eReader and Stanza are better.

This is ok, but it won't replace Stanza or eReader for me. I read an hour or more each day on my iphone, and this app needs alot more to replace my existing readers and the services I use to purchase/download books. I think if this is a user's first reading app, they might be fine with it.

Lacks:
--Ability to change font type/color
--Ability to change background
--Support for other book types (to upload existing books from other readers, or free downloads from other sites)
--Ability to annotate and highlight
--Configurable swipe for turning the page
--Dictionary/Reference Support

I do like how easy the purchases are pushed to the reader (no need to fetch them from the site). I also like that the books show a pic of the bookcover along with the title when browsing the bookshelf.
Love it!!!!

Beats iBooks

The Kindle store beats the pants off of iBooks in terms of selection. Granted there is no fancy page turn or dictionary, which I would like to see. But Kindle offers notation and a choice of font color and background, which iBooks lacks. Until Apple makes some functional changes to include more books and add the above functionality, I will stick with Kindle.

Nice and simple.

But ...

1) NO text search. Why?

2) NO horizontal reading.

3) Annotations can only be made if you have a Kindle

Since this is a first release, perhaps these missing features will be coming. I think this app will particularly appeal to those with actual Kindle devices.
What use is an e-reader without a search function???

This app is fine, and Iets me read the half-dozen texts I've bought for my iPhone Kindle app over the last year, mostly stuff I couldn't find in print form for a reasonable price. It lets me read books, and unlike iBooks it does my preferred white-text-on-black-scree n mode, which is swell. However: if there's no search function, this program makes my purchased books _less functional_ than their physical counterpart—much less an equivalent un-DRMed ePub which someone scanned and OCR-ed themselves. Hint to publishers: if you want to stay solvent, you might want to make what you're selling at least as useful as what your potential customers can make themselves. If you do not, you will fail.

I've started reading a lot more since I got this app. It's so convienent and I'm thrilled they added the ability to write notes in books. Also there are a number of free contemporary books as well as classics that have introduced me to new authors.
The is probably the best kept app secret!

I am SO glad I found this app. Don't have to pay $400 for a Kindle and get all the benefits. Downside? I spend $$ on ebooks! :) One feature I would like - ability to archive books I've read but don't want to delete. Otherwise, perfect!

I have only briefly used the app but I find it very useful for short periods. I "always" have my iPhone with me but I don't always carry my Kindle so the flexibility to continue reading a book is useful. The synching between the Kindle and the app works as advertised. I wish periodicals were also available but they seem to be locked to an individual Kindle. If periodicals were available I would give it 5 stars.

Why do I have electric books? Unfortunately, I have no good answer to that question other than: It's cool and it's OCCASIONALLY convenient (about as occasionally I make BM's). And these kindle-makers need to know that the electric word is inferior, that many a bookish man actually likes a book--a book with paper and ink and perhaps a nice dictionary too. But anyway, what I'm saying here is, Kindle baby, you gotta sweeten this deal. Gimme a SEARCH option. Gimme the option to read my book on ANY expensive electric device I own (e.g. my laptop, not just my phone). And PLEASE gimme the ability to figure out which page in the print edition corresponds to the position I am at in the Kindle version.

this is an excellent reader. the changable font size and screen lock functions make it superb in comparison to others. the kindle store offers the majority of the classics for free and others for a dollar. I'm very happy I decided to download this app

I like the kindle reader (especially the ability to easily access my common kindle library, and for whisper sync) but one thing I really like on the iBooks app is the landscape 2-up mode. Would love to see this added to the kindle app
