Description
Lovin’ that tune? Shazam gives you instant satisfaction when you want to know what song is playing. Just point your phone towards the music source to identify and buy the track, or share your discovery with friends and family.

If you are a new Shazam user you’ll be limited to 5 Tags a month.  If you’ve been using Shazam on your current iPhone/iPod touch since before 9th November 2009, you still receive unlimited tagging.

Or why not buy Shazam Encore - the premium version of our app.  Encore comes with extra features including unlimited tagging, previews, recommendations and Tag charts.  Shazam Encore is the fastest, slickest way to discover and share music.

Start your music journey, and enjoy Shazam to:
• Discover and buy music: identify what song is playing; preview and buy the track direct on iTunes, or watch the video on YouTube.
• Share a music moment: Tweet your Tags, post track details to Facebook, or send a postcard to friends who share your music tastes.
• Learn more about music: read track and album reviews, view song lyrics* and artist biographies.
• Personalise your Tags: take and add a photo, or map your Tags, as a reminder of where you where when you captured the moment.
• Store pending Tags: when you don’t have a data connection, you can still capture the music moment. Untagged tracks will be sent when you’re back in WiFi or a data coverage area.

* Lyrics available in the US only

Buying music requires iTunes Music Store in your country.

A note to iPod touch users: Shazam needs to hear the music sample, which means using a microphone (on the iPhone it's built in, on the iPod touch you can attach an Apple Stereo Headset which has a small microphone capsule). Hold the mic towards the music source and Shazam will do the rest!

None of the competitions featured in Shazam are conducted by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. Please refer to competition pages for applicable terms and conditions before entering.
What's New In This Version?
• Get Tour Info: find out local and international tour dates for your tagged artist, and buy tickets to the gig.
Feature Updates:
• You still receive unlimited tagging if you’ve been using Shazam on your current iPhone/iPod touch since before 9th November 2009.
• Minor bug fixes.

Might be the greatest app on the iphone. It listens to music in your surroundings, analyzes it and tells you what it is.

Better yet, you can instantly look it up on youtube, itunes, share it with friends, save it for later. Thus far Shazam has always known what music is playing, even the most unknown song, in the most noisiest place.

Shazam Confirms -- No Hidden Fees or Trial Period

I absolutely love this app and was upset at the thought of a "trial period" or "hidden fees" so I immediately contacted Shazam. I received the following response, within the hour:

"Thanks for downloading the app. Just to clarify there is no “30 day free trial period”. The iPhone application is free to download and use. We are not trying to fool or trick people into paying for something they don’t want to. We do charge for music recognition through our UK dial up and WAP services, but not for the iPhone. Please do not hesitate to use Shazam and tag as many songs as you like!"

Needless to say, we can continue enjoying this app...worry free! Thanks Shazam!

It works so well- EVEN IN CROWDED RESTAURANTS OR WHEN MY CAR RADIO IS EXPERIENCING FEEDBACK.

If you are an iPod Touch owner, please STOP rating this 1 STAR just because it does not work on your device. How did you idiots think it was going to analyze the song without a microphone? The accelerometer?

"I'm rating the Nintendo Wii 1 STAR because I didn't realize I needed a TV to use it!"

Shame on Shazam for crippling a previously great app. Not only will I NOT buy the Encore version because of this, I won't buy or use anything else you put out there. It's one thing to add ads to an app, but to take away functionality by limiting users to 5 tags per month is inexcusable. AVOID THIS UPDATE IF YOU ARE ALREADY RUNNING SHAZAM.

This app used to be amazing... That is until you now only get 5 tags a month now. The app now also freezes and crashes constantly. Way to go, NOT.

Only 5 tags a month?? That is so cheap! What's the point? Why even have the app at all? This USED to be the best app ever now I'm pissed I read the reviews after i downloaded the update. And $4.99 for the real thing? You've got to be joking! Maybe $0.99 for the way u screwed everyone over 

5 tags a month limit? Fail. Updated software that makes the app crash every time I try to use it? Fail. What used to be a great app has now turned to junk. Not to mention they are now asking $5 for an app that I USED to have working just fine on my iPhone. Not only was this update misleading but I've never updated an app and found myself downgraded before. what gives?

Just so you people at Shazam Entertainment get the point - I loved this app. used it all the time. But frankly I feel cheated right now. But since I can't live without an app like this anymore, I'm going to take my $5 and buy Midomi. At least they are honest about what is included in their updates.

They've pretty much ruined what was one if the best apps out there. Now it crashes constantly and it's crippled to 5 songs so they can upsell you to their new $5 version which still has ads! What the hell were they thinking? They had so many other ways to monitize what was a great product, but the chose the most asinine of them.

New update cripples the app. 5 tags a month limit now and disables features that the old version had in an attemp to force users to upgrade to thier "premium" version (which has ads too btw). Goodbye shazam, hello midomi.

Version 1.8.5
I'm sorry, but I have to side with pretty much everyone else over the last few versions. Ever since the paid app came out the free app has gotten worse and worse, between not being able to recognize songs to the limit to 5 tags a month things, it's all a stupid wanna be bait and switch. I always had faith that Shazam would at least make the free version able to recognize songs once again but now I've lost all faith since the latest update erased all of my tagged songs from the last 9 months or so meaning everything that I tagged that I may not have purchased yet is gone to the ether, lost in the clouds... So with that I now officially hate this app, it is useless.

Version 1.8.0
Great app, but this last update has introduced a major freezing problem. I haven't figured out exactly what makes it freeze, but it seems to be happening pretty quick after startup. Update: Bah, screw it. With this new 5 songs per month limit (which they conveniently forgot to mention in the update details), I hereby declare that this app has jumped the shark. I'm not going to pay for a formerly free app, especially when the free version is this crashy. RIP Shazam.

This technology has been around for a few years, but I must say this is the bet implementation I have ever seen. Slick interface, phone vibrates when recording is done (better than having a sound which you probably wouldn't hear due to your music playing). All in all a well thought out and useful app. I have yet to experience an occasion where ID fails.
