Description
The Amazon Mobile app allows iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch users to quickly search, shop, compare prices, read reviews, and make purchases on Amazon.com using a simple, yet elegant, interface. Amazon customers have full access to their existing cart, wish lists, payment and shipping options, order history, 1-Click (R) settings, and Prime membership benefits. All purchases made on Amazon Mobile are routed through Amazon’s secure servers just as they are on the web. All prices are in US Dollars.

For the iPhone and the iPod Touch, the Amazon app also includes the experimental feature "Amazon Remembers" that allows you to use the camera on your iPhone to create a visual list of things you want to remember while out-and-about. The photos you take from the app are stored on both the Amazon Mobile app and Amazon’s website. If the item you want to remember is a product, Amazon Remembers will even try to find a product similar to your photo for sale on the web. If we do, we’ll send you an e-mail alert and post the result along with the photo.

Amazon Mobile is great for:

* Buying a new book while waiting for an appointment

* Comparing prices from Amazon and thousands of other merchants to those in the retail store where you are shopping

*Shopping for the full selection of products available from Amazon.com

* Purchasing and gift wrapping your holiday gifts while on the go

* Browsing product images and reading customer reviews while on the bus or train

* Tracking the status of a recently-placed order when you’re away from your computer

* Using Amazon Remembers to take a picture to search for a pair of shoes similar to the ones the person sitting next to you is wearing (only available on iPhone app)

* Watching movie trailers and listening to music samples (iPad only).

I don't really like the interface of Amazon Mobile. I find myself using the actual site through the phone's browser more than the app.

Take a picture of an item at the store and find out if Amazon has it for less. Genius.

Version 1.0
I just downloaded this app before heading out to lunch and then tested the Amazon Remembers feature in a dimly lit restaurant bar by taking a picture of my shoe on my foot half obscured by my pants. Didn't take long for Amazon to send me an email notifying me that they found the product I was looking for. Clicked the link within the email on my iPhone and it launched Amazon Mobile, showed me the exact shoe I was looking for along with the price. All I had to do was pick the size and color and click buy.
Very good start!

So far so good - this app is very easy to use and has a lot of the features I was hoping for such as the product searching, account details and such. The 'Remembers' section is all too cool! I took a picture of the mouse on my desk and within an hour or so I got an email from Amazon with a link to the product on their site - very cool! This will be especially handy when I'm in the store and want to compare prices or remember something for later knowing it's probably cheaper on Amazon.
Very Useful

While I can't imagine doing a lot of browsing type shopping with this app, it's a great way to access and/or edit your account info and track your shipments. If you already know what you're looking for, and aren't near a computer, ordering something is quick and easy.
Why the bad reviews?

Who's giving this good reviews?

Amazon must be paying people to give it good reviews because this app is pointless. A fraction of the funtionality of using Safari. It's claerly another targetted marketting medium without giving consumers anything new.
Security Problem - phone stolen, Amazon has credit card info!

I do most of household shopping on Amazon from my desktop. I was thrilled to add the Amazon app to my iPhone. But Amazon stores your credit card information. If someone swipes your phone, they can add a new shipping address, buy thousands of dollars worth of merchandise on your credit card, and click send faster than you can cancel your card. Amazon needs to add a default password check prior to checkout for the mobile version. Amazon could allow less security conscious users to elect to disable this feature if desired.
Not so great,

What's the point of this app? The web app is better in my view, coz it has the features I really want to be able to access anytime. This app could be great if it could offer the deal of the day, lightening deals and quick picks. Also the ability the browse catagories is essential.

This is a great app.... Works well, except that you cannot access any of your registries from it. Wish lists are no problem, but, it seems counter productive to not be able to access any registries let alone be able to purchase off of them. Fix that issue and you'll get 5 stars from me!!!
Solid app

I always use this app, whether I plan to buy anything or not. It has a great design and layout, and I'm completely satisfied with the new update.
Great! I'm not sure what the bad reviews are for.

When browsing textbooks, it is very frustrating to find out what edition you're looking at. On most of the books I've viewed, the cover image is blurry, so I couldn't even get it that way - or even read the author at times. The search is a little literal in that if toy put in the title missing a ":" even with the exact words it will have the book you're looking for buried in the list. Finally, maybe it isn't offered for the books I've looked for, but where is the "look inside the cover" preview? Other than those things I think it is a pretty slick app.
Don't bother putting any thought into it...

Version 1.1.2
You can kinda manage your own wish list, unless you actually want to set the priority of items or move items between wish lists. No access to your shopping list and gift organizer (seriously, how often are you buying things off your own wish list?). These are the most efficient features for a mobile setting, and they aren't accessible through the app. A search button rather than the ubiquitous and familiar search field? What were they thinking?

Look, I understand that you can apply whatever arbitrary restrictions to your API that you want; but maybe you should open it back up, and let the people who have a clue about mobile apps build them.
A lot slower after the update :(

Almost unbearably laggy after the latest update. Dont get me wrong, I love the added features, but it's hard with it taking minutes to load a single item. >_<
