Like every one of these pseudo carbon footprint programs this fails to take into account the fact that I own a forest land and pastures that are carbon sinks soaking up far, far more carbon than I emit. These programs are poorly thought out political junk.
Then there is the whole question of, "Is Global Warming a bad idea?" Think about it for a moment. They used to warn us we were headed for the next ice age and Global Cooling. Global Cooling is FAR, FAR, FAR worse than global warming. Global Cooling will cause far more extinctions loss of habitable land and hardship. If I'm given the choice between a few degrees, even 10 degrees, of global temperature rise vs the next ice age I'll take Global Warming any day of the millenium. Al was totally off base on this inconvient little truth he failed to mention.
What a waste of a download

Do any of you have a clue that Carbon is needed by every living thing on this planet? This carbon footprint stuff is just another ploy at finding a way to tax people. If you all feel so strongly that sending money to someone to satiate your 'guilt' over emitting carbon somehow fixes something, then feel free to do so. I've been an environmentalist my entire lift but this nonesense puts a black eye on the rest of us. For a look at a similar issue in our past just look to how one could purchase 'indulgences' from the Church so you could sin guilt-free. See any similarities???
Neat little app

12/13/08 Update: I'm really sad to see all of the politically motivated reviews to this app. Remove the agenda-driven single star ratings and it'd be at 4 - 4.5 stars. It's unfortunate that the developers decided to offer it for free instead of for 99 cents. People who don't believe that carbon matters wouldn't have paid for it, couldn't review it, and it would have a rating that reflected its actual value to its intended audience. Kindness backfired, here.
---
Helps you easily calculate the $ cost of the carbon your car and utilities dump in the air, using metrics derived from well reputed, peer reviewed studies. If you're diligent about adding entries when you pay your bills and buy gas, it should give you a decent track of your carbon footprint over time.
Some of the buttons are small, and some of the roller choices cut off because the study names are longer than the iPhone/iPod Touch screen is wide, but the app is stable, pretty and does its job well. I'd love to see some comparison graphs. Tracking my footprint vs. my friends' or the average for folks in my country would be good fun. A- for now. Could be an A+ with minor interface tweaks.

This app is for brainwashed only.

You'd have to be an idiot or retard or both perhaps to believe that YOUR carbon footprint or he'll all 6 billion carbon footprints make any sort of difference. It's ostentacious to think YOU matter that much. Newsflash you're an idiot and you don't matter.
nice start, but needs some serious improvements

I have examined many carbon counter programs and websites, and just about all of them lack some fundamental options (My Carbon is amongst those that lacks these basic options): Those of us who live in large metropolitan cities more often than not, live in apartments, so our power consumption is different. I almost always use the subway, so my carbon output is definitely different than those who drive the same distances as i travel on public transport (for that matter, what if i use the bus?). Also, I opted to use a company that uses wind power to supply my electricity. This would also impact my carbon output. And lets not forget about our shopping habits; do we shop farmers markets or stores that buy locally produced food, or do we nto consider this issue. How often do we purchase electronics, clothing, furniture, etc? All of these factors contribute to our carbon footprint. I really wish developers making carbon calculators would think about these issues. It would help us all make more of a difference in how we live. Fancy sites/applications are nice and all...but i know we can do better.
